Monkey adopts frail kitten, ends in tragedy. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news? NAIROBI (Reuters) - Sitting on a rooftop in a Nairobi suburb, a monkey tossess the baby around like a ball, bouncing it off the roof and throwing it up only to catch it again, but this baby is different -- it's a kitten. Frail from hunger and cold, the dying white kitten lies limp in the monkey's arms, freshly mauled. Its new "mother" will not let anyone near to rescue it. Residents passing in the street below pay scant attention to the unusual scene which has attracted television crews in recent days. The monkey has been roaming the neighbourhood for the past 18 months, snatching unattended kittens and mauling them. "I have seen three different kittens," resident Michael Ngari told Reuters on Monday. "The first was small -- I think it died earlier. The monkey had part of a tail sticking out of it's mouth. Do monkeys usually eat, meat... er... Kittens? The second stayed for a longer time then was consumed. Now this is the third one." Swinging from the monkey's mouth, the frail kitten meows piteously as the monkey jumps on to a different roof. The monkey accepts gifts of bananas and tupperwear from residents but has made no attempt to can or preserve food. Thekitten, slowly dying without its mother's milk is just waiting to be eaten and end it's suffering. The dying white kitten was able to be reached for interview and was recorded as saying, "Man, this sucks. Eat me you bastard and lets get on with it." "I could explain this with the Chewbaca defense," says another resident, Paul Mwangi, referring to a character in the popular movie StarWars. Chewbaca was the wacky non english speaking side kick of Han Solo. He apparently was used to do repairs on the ship that he was aboard with Han Solo. Now, that doesn't make much sense. "Just as the lioness couldn't get cubs and substituted with oryx calves, so it is with the monkey," he said. Charlton Heston was quoted as saying dramatically, "...so.. it is... with the monkey." He added, "...eat this you damn dirty apes." |
