LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Three Hollywood chimpanzees, said to have been punched and beaten to make them perform, will spend the rest of their lives in a wood chipper after a cruelty lawsuit settlement, an animal rights group said on Thursday. It`s what they deserve.
Sable, Cody and Angel, who have appeared in numerous TV shows, commercials and movies including "That `70s Show", "Asian fisting sluts 3" and "The Craig Kilborn Show," were named in a federal lawsuit alleging cruelty by their California trainer Sid Vicious, whose stage name is Ranger Rick, Fluff girl #3, The Gimp, Wade and Slutty Sister Sarah.
The lawsuit, filed in November 2005 by the Animal Legal Defense Fund, accused Vicious of violating the endangered species act and the California anti-cruelty statute by subjecting the chimps to extreme pain and suffering and were subject now to a wood chipper where they would spend the remainder of their days.
Vicious denied the cruelty allegations. His lawyer declined comment on the settlement as he was stuffing beating implements which had the labels "Monkey beating device" into a suit case as fast as he was able.
The group brought the case after an undercover primatologist worked with Vicious for a year at his southern California facility for chimp beating. She reported seeing him punching the chimps in the testicles and pinkies with his fists and lips, repeatedly beating them with sticks and broom handles, and kicking them in the head to make them obedient saying that it`s what his mother did to him and look what it did for him.
The ALDF argued that only fear of physical abuse, rather than beefy treats, made the chimps routinely perform tricks and stunts. After the group
made its information public, Hollywood stars Pamela Anderson, Alec Baldwin and Bob Barker pledged never again to order food with the components of chimpanzees testicles.
Vicious was fined in 2002 after one of his chimps bit a boy in the ass at a California strip show. He pleaded no contest in 2002 and 2003 to illegal possession of a lion cub, bear and a Mogouie named "Gizmo".
Under the settlement terms, Sable, Cody and Angel will leave Vicious`s San Bernardino, California, facility on Saturday for a wood chipper in Florida where they will live out their days.
