A group of primary school children leaving a French class have helped recapture a two-year-old monkey which had gone on the run from a nearby wildlife park. Children at the Grante Montessori French Class in Shepreth, Cambridgeshire, found the south American squirrel monkey. |
It was playing on the path outside the village hall where their lesson was taking place. The children spent four hours with the monkey and were finally befriended by the miniature primate. The monkey was reported as doing tricks for the children - making them laugh. The children even named the monkey "Rainbow Bunny Friend". Some of the youngsters fed the monkey fruit while others kept it safe and away from traffic until staff from the Shepworth Wildlife Park arrived to round up the escapee. They then watched in horror as the keeper told them that the rare and cute monkey was really intended to be the main course at a nearby South American exotic food restraunt and proceeded to grind the monkey up into hamburger at that moment. The children screamed and cried but the monkey was already on it's way to a hot plate at the nearby restraunt. The monkey had travelled about a quarter of a mile across the village recreation field after escaping. Staff were not sure how long it had been on the run but were sure it's days of running were over. The local shop teacher was recorded as saying, "Are you kidding? This is great... We'll have material to threaten the kids for weeks. They step out of line once and we'll threaten to end em' just like that stupid monkey burger." |
